Statement by Cyrus Reed, Conservation Director, Lone Star Chapter, Sierra Club in Testimony before the Texas House Energy Resources Committee at Today’s Interim Hearing
on Energy Production in Texas
"Oil and gas production in Texas continues to grow, and reasonable regulations like air emission standards proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency will not prevent further production, but assure that fracking and other production techniques are safer and cleaner.
“Texas must prepare itself to transition beyond
traditional electricity sources like coal, meet reasonable
safeguards and grow new resources like solar, energy
efficiency and demand response.
"The answer to assuring Texas’s continued energy production
is to make sure it is done safely and transparently
by reducing water use and cleaning up its emissions
and wastes, and also move beyond coal and gas by
continuing to encourage the development of wind,
solar, energy storage and energy efficiency resources.”
