Our hearts go out to the families of those who were killed in the Deepwater Horizon drilling-rig disaster. This terrible tragedy is a sad reminder that oil is dirty, dangerous, and deadly. This is a national emergency.
We need President Obama to stop all new drilling off America's coasts immediately and permanently. This dirty and dangerous practice has no place in a 21st century energy economy. Instead of risking our lives, our coasts, our clean air, and our security by perpetuating our addiction to oil, it's time to build a clean energy economy that means more jobs, less pollution, and real energy independence.
Enough is enough. Hardworking Americans should not be left to clean up after oil and coal companies that are raking in billions in profits.
The coal mining and oil disasters of the past few weeks should be a wake up call and a turning point. It's time to finally embrace the kind of clean energy solutions that already exist and end our dependence on dirty, dangerous fossil fuels.
We urge the President to halt all proposals to allow more oil drilling off our coasts!
The beaches, bays, and estuaries on the coast near Houston’s oil industry headquarters may not bear the worst of this disaster’s enormous environmental impacts. However, no community will be untouched. The world’s
oil company executives gathering at the OTC this week, would
do well to take a cue from this catastrophe and get into
the business of clean energy, the way of our future.
