and in the promotion of a comprehensive green transportation
policy for Texas.
Scope: The Transportation
Associate is responsible for conducting research
on state and regional transportation topics, analyzing
state and regional transportation strategies and
plans and assisting in the development of alternative
strategies and plans, monitoring and providing
input to the transportation planning and implementation
activities of the Texas Department of Transportation
and regional transportation agencies (including
the expenditure of federal transportation funding
in Texas), and promoting the expansion of mass
transit and other transportation alternatives to
the heavy dependence on vehicles
1. Conducts research on state & regional transportation
agencies, plans, programs, and policies.
2. Reviews and evaluates state and selected regional
transportation plans and programs, including the
use of federal transportation funding in the development
and implementation of these plans and programs.
3. Provides policy advice to assist in the development
and promotion of alternative transportation plans
and programs that would emphasize greater energy
efficiency, mass transit and other transportation
options, and consideration of appropriate land
4. Writes reports and provides briefings for Chapter
staff and volunteers and others on transportation
Works closely with volunteer leaders and Chapter
staff to determine needs for policy information
on transportation topics and to provide that information.
6. Works closely with volunteer leaders and staff
to promote “green” transportation policies.
7. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills:
Three years experience in transportation or related
Bachelor's degree in political science,
regional planning, transportation planning, or
Strong oral and written communications skills.
Proficiency in the use of computer software, including
Microsoft Word, Excel, e-mail, fax applications,
and social networking applications.
Demonstrated familiarity with transportation and
related environmental topics, issues, and literature.
Ability to work cooperatively with staff and volunteers.
Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
