General Description:The Transportation Associate provides policy expertise to the Lone Star Chapter of the Sierra Club in support of its work on state and regional transportation issues and in the promotion of a comprehensive green transportation policy for Texas. The Associate is responsible for conducting research on state and regional transportation topics, analyzing state and regional transportation strategies and plans and assisting in the development of alternative strategies and plans, monitoring and providing input to the transportation planning and implementation activities of the Texas Department of Transportation and regional transportation agencies (including the expenditure of federal transportation funding in Texas), and promoting the expansion of mass transit and other transportation alternatives to the heavy dependence on vehicles.
Knowledge & Skills:Qualified applicants should have at least a bachelors degree in political science, regional planning, transportation planning, or a related field; three years of experience in transportation or other policy research; demonstrated experience with transportation and related environmental topics, issues, and literature; excellent written and oral communication skills; proficient computer skills; ability to work cooperatively with staff and volunteers; and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
