Celebrate this French national holiday marking the beginning of the French revolution with our annual canoe trip on the Red River. Flooding washed this trip out last year, so this year we are going to have twice as much fun to make up for it. We'll put-in on Saturday under the Interstate 35 bridge (north of Gainesville). The rest of the day will be spent swimming and relaxing as we paddle down to our campsite on a large sandbar. Sunday we'll canoe on down to the takeout with a few swim stops on the way. This is a very nice section of the Red River, with very little development along the banks. Some canoeing experience is required and you must furnish your own canoe and camping equipment. Also, you must bring something French, or you will be guillotined at dawn. Leader: Arthur Kuehne 214-902-9260(H) NEW AUG 20 (WED) OUTINGS COMMITTEE MEETING. Hang out with some like-minded singles and enjoy good food and great music, up close and personal, in an easy going social atmosphere. We’ll start with the potluck followed by the concert. Since these concerts fill up, PREPAYMENT is needed to reserve your seat. Send a check, $12 per seat, payable to "Eric Schwartz", to Paul Heller, 13806 Wooded Creek Dr, Farmers Branch TX 75244. Enclose a note with the name(s), phone numbers, and email addresses of those for whom you are reserving a seat. I'll confirm by email. Attendance is limited to 45. Bring a dish to share that you would be proud to have your name on. Soft drinks, coffee/tea, ice, and paper goods will be provided. You are welcome to bring beer/wine. The requested contribution all goes to the performer. There will be time for socializing before the performance, over dessert during the intermission, and after the performance. Directions to Paul Heller's house: From LBJ, go 0.9 miles north on Marsh Lane to the traffic light at Wooded Creek Drive. Turn right. Paul's house is the third house on the right. The performer Eric Schwartz doesn't fit neatly into a category. Imagine the love child of James Taylor, Weird Al, and Tom Lehrer and you’d start to get the idea. A recent issue of Hustler magazine reviewed his latest CD this way: "Blending politically savvy comedy with music has always been a slippery slope. Eric Schwartz knows just how to meld funny and funky." Gloria Steinem said "makes you want to tap dance and fall in love" when describing Holly Near’s version of Eric’s song "Hattie and Mattie." Doctor Demento credited an earlier Schwartz work as one of the two best albums of 2000. Check out Eric's tunes and videos at www.myspace.com/redschwartz or www.ericschwartz.com.
