Letter from the Chair our big goal and the big move We have set an unprecedented goal for 2006: 50% of our 2006 revenue from donations, a campaign goal of $14,000. What gives us the right to be so bold? Your generous support of our last two annual campaigns demonstrated your agreement with this fundamental principle: that our volunteers’ time and energy should be spent in advancement of the Club’s mission, not in high-effort, low-return fundraising events. You see the result in these pages of The Compass: reports about our work on air quality, energy & global warming, and water; an outstanding Outings program; public education activities. Dallas volunteers are also active at the chapter and national club levels. Our members participate in the national club’s Energy and Global Warming, Population and Member Engagement committees. The Lone Star Chapter recently recognized three of our leaders with awards. Two of our outings leaders led trips for the national club. We must raise over 90% of the Dallas Group’s budget locally. Anything you give will help guarantee that we can continue the advocacy and public education needed to preserve our precious natural heritage and protect our children’s health. Please use the donation form printed in this issue to make your gift. Thank you for your support! Here is the donation form. ****************************** Join us on Tuesday, June 13 for our first general meeting in our new space, The Center for Spiritual Living. This is a beautiful 300-seat facility in a convenient location near Spring Valley and the Tollway. At 6:00 we’ll be grilling hot dogs & veggie dogs in the parking lot. At 7:00 we’ll have a program on today’s hot topic: reducing greenhouse gases and saving energy with “green” building. We’re moving our meeting to the 2nd Tuesday so that we no longer conflict with Wednesday night religious activities. Bring your friends! There’s a map to the meeting in this issue of The Compass and on the website, www.dallassierraclub.org. Ann Drumm |
