Dallas Sierra Club 2006 Bus Trips by David Van Winkle, Dallas Sierra Club Outings Chair The Dallas Sierra Club will continue its tradition of offering bus trips to wonderful adventure spots in the mountains of Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado. Our bus trips are logistically the best way to get outdoors to these locations. Just show up on time, sleep all night in our chartered sleeper bus, wake up at the trailhead, have a great time on the trail, bus picks you up at the trailhead to return to Dallas, sleep on the bus coming home and wake up in Dallas. No driving, no flying, no rushing through airports, no rental car hassle, no lost trailheads. Plus you meet a lot of people who share your love and respect for the wilderness. Each trip has 5 levels of adventure to match the varied interests and capabilities of our members. Prices for our trips are typically less than $200 for members. Our 8th annual winter trip is again Taos, New Mexico with opportunities for you to snowshoe, ski, and winter camp. At Memorial Day weekend, we will return to Bandelier National Monument for the first time in five years. In addition to a broad range of backpacking and hiking, Bandelier offers major Native American ruins and learning opportunities. The Fourth of July trip will return to the Pecos Wilderness in New Mexico after going to Sangre de Cristo in 2005. The beautiful Weminuche Wilderness in southern Colorado will again be our destination for the Labor Day trip due to popular demand. For Thanksgiving, we will continue our 30 year tradition of providing varied trips to the Big Bend National Park area. Each trip is described in more detail in the outings list. As we get near each trip, check back in The Compass or on www.DallasSierraClub.org for complete details. |
