The
Dallas Sierra Club presents a tour of a green, sustainable, passive
solar home designed by architect Gary Olp, principal GGOArchitects.
Mr. Olp built his home using the same standards his architectural
firm practices: energy efficiency, indoor air quality, low
maintenance, and minimal ecological footprint with an end result
that creates a healthier quality of life. The house, located in the
White Rock Lake area, is 3,600 square feet. Its electric bills have
consistently averaged less than $125. Outside, Mr. Olp is restoring
the site to an organic natural landscape that includes cottonwoods
and pecan trees.
Visitors will have the opportunity to walk through the house as Mr.
Olp provides information on the construction and materials plus
answers questions on its features including: Durable/sustainable
materials used, Structural insulated panels (SIPs), Insulated
Concrete Forms (ICF), Passive solar design, Native landscaping,
Thermal mass, Windows, Floors, and Paint.
Sponsored by local Green businesses.
