Hal Flanders 1915 - 2001
A Tribute to the Man

Friends in the Big Bend Region and elsewhere mourn the passing of Hal Flanders on October 8, 2001. Hal and Mary Flanders came to Alpine in 1977 after he had retired. Hal had worked many years for the Bell Telephone system, in the course of which he and Mary and their children lived in many States. During those years he came to know and treasure a diverse variety of natural places.

Hal believed that the earth and our world must be protected and nurtured, because it is not just our physical world but our spiritual home. He devoted many years of his life to that task for which we are all grateful.
