9. The ocean spouts up out of this hole in the lava when the surf is high. Called 'blowholes', they can be found on many of the islands, but
Spouting Horn, near Po'ipu Beach, is one of the most famous.

10. After five days on the beach, we relocated to cabins at the Koke'e State Park at the top of famous
Waimea Canyon. This a view from a canyon overlook.

11. The name 'Waimea' means 'red-colored waters' in reference to the rivers that erode the red-walled canyon into the current spectacular shape. Mark Twain is said to have called it the
Grand Canyon of the Pacific.

12. Kay, Lee and Becky pause on the jungle trail that runs along the rim of the Kalalau Valley. Called the
Pihea Trail, it affords great views of the Na Pali coastline before it joins the Alaka'i Swamp Trail.

13. One of the most beautiful valleys in the world, the
Kalalau Valley runs from the top of the Waimea Canyon down to the Na Pali coastline.

14. We were extremely fortunate to be at Koke'e for the celebration of the native Hawaiian 'E Eo Emmalani Festival,' a tribute to the cross-island trek of Queen Emma through the Alaka'i Swamp. In this picture, a descendant of
Emma, Queen of Kauai, enjoys the homage paid to her as a representative of her famous ancestor.

17. One of the charms of Kauai is the profusion of intense colors and beautiful flowers found along the trails and jungles throughout the island.

19. On the last day of the trip, we made a quick visit to the
Nawiliwili Harbor lighthouse on Ninini Point, guarding the entrance to the harbor.
